cover girl outlast lip stain

Happy review day everyone! Hope your week has been glossy! There are so many fun products out there – how can a glossgirl choose?

For today’s review, I chose Cover Girl’s Outlast Lip Stain, one of the newest additions to their mighty stable of cosmetics. I picked this one for a couple of reasons. It was a stain, for one, and I have been so used to using glosses everyday, I wanted to shake it up a bit!

Easy to find just about anywhere, Cover Girl’s new product comes in an marker-size, marker-like tipped tube and comes in ten colors. I chose Cinnamon Smile, a plum-ish, brownish shade that was one of the most neutral in the palette.

The Cover Girl website describes the stain as “giving lips a beautiful, lightweight flush of color that won’t come off, lasting for hours without the heavy look or feel of an ordinary lipstick.”

Unfortunately, what I found in the tube wasn’t really close. From the minute I put it on, I was worried. It felt weird, didn’t seem to go on smoothly, and the color was unremarkable. I waited for it to dry and then put some more on. It just didn’t work for me on any level. It felt dry and cakey on my lips, and I would even go so far to say chalky. And for something that is being billed as a stain, the color just never really looked like a stain. When I think of a stain, I think of a smudging, deep, color.

Now Cover Girl is no newcomer to the makeup industry. My history with their products has always been a little hit or miss. I happen to LOVE their new mascara.

I just didn’t love this one. I thought the color line was a bit dated, as was the packaging and the tube itself. The pen is a good idea, and this one worked well, even though I didn’t think the product did. With a pricetag of $7.99, it didn’t break the bank.

I’ll keep trying them, but for now, Cover Girl Outlast Lip Stain rate two out of five smacks: a little glossable.

smooches & smacks!
