fenty beauty gloss bomb universal lip luminizer

Happy Review Day, babes!

Are we all shining bright like glossbabes? Or maybe feeling like the only girl in the world? Hopefully not sending out an S.O.S… Do you see what I did there? Yes, no? Either way, I’m here today to tell you all about whether or not Fenty Beauty’s Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer is here to stay or if it needs to take a bow🎶 Oops, I did it again… 🎶

I had a big birthday last year, and now that I am ten years older than when we first met, I am becoming more and more concerned with doing whatever I can to help protect my skin and fight the clock. One of the things I have been doing (aside from being much more diligent about taking makeup off at night and hiding from the sun), is visiting my local med spa for facials every four weeks or so. I grew up in the era where tanner meant better, and we did what we needed to do to get that rosy glow.

Fast forward to 2019, and I am now trying to undo some of the damage that I did when I was younger. I’ve tried a variety of different treatments and one that I have grown to love is dermaplaning. I’ve been thinking about writing about some of the treatments I’ve tried and posting about them here. Any thoughts on that, babes?

Anyhoo… I was there a few weeks ago for a dermaplaning, and I’ve gotten to know the aestheticians a … keep on reading...

glossable returns!

Dear glossbabes:

After a long, long dormancy, I’m excited to share that glossable is back and we’ll be posting new reviews and new content right here on this brand new website.

Although it’s been quite a while, I was never quite able to let go of the site, even though I had let it fall to the wayside. We get busy, and other things take priority, but never has my love for all things glossable waned.

What had waned though, was the technology that the old site was built on, so that helped me decide whether or not I was serious about this because I would have to invest in something new.

I’ve thought about this site many times over the years, and truth be told, the fact that Beauty Bash has come back around was what really reignited the flame to create more content and bring the site back to life.

This site has been redone and just relaunched, so I happily welcome  you to take a stroll through. All of the old content is here (tagged as “legacy review” and with an “originally published” date noted) and new content will be posted here. You can also check us out on Twitter and Instagram.

Our first new product review will be out on Thursday, April 11. I invite you to come back and check it out.

As always, smooches & smacks,
glossgirl… keep on reading...

gemstonz cbd-infused lip balm

So babes, now that I am jumping back in, I thought my first product should be something that is not just fun and functional, but also at the forefront in the land of product ingredients. And what other product these days is more on than the forefront than CBD. Haven’t heard of it? Well, you soon will as it’s right now all the rage.

CBD is short for cannabidiol and yes, it is found in the marijuana plant, but no, it does not get you high. It is one of the “cannabinoids” found in the cannabis plant. THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the one that is better known and the one that causes a high. Both occur naturally in the plant, and both interact with “cannabinoid receptors” that are found in the human body.

If you haven’t yet noticed, CBD products are everywhere. It’s an industry that is growing by the day and it quickly finding its way into health and beauty products. More and more claims are being made each day about the health benefits about using CBD to treat pain, anxiety, depression and a host of other ailments.

Now, babes, I am not a doctor, so I am not endorsing any of these claims. But what I can tell you is that before I picked this product, I had tried about a half a dozen CBD products, including gummies, tinctures, capsules, and yes, even “flower” to help with sleep issues that have plagued me over the years. I finally found one product that really did help (a capsule), … keep on reading...

bare escentuals webcast recap

Hi babes, and a Happy Monday to you all!

So, I had the opportunity on Friday night to attend a live Bare Escentuals webcast at QVC Studio Park in West Chester, PA. I was super-excited to have been invited to their very first webcast, especially after not being able to get tickets to this year’s Beauty Bash. Tickets had sold out in under a minute – that was not a very glossy day, babes – and I tried, tried, tried to find a way to get tickets, but ultimately came up empty-handed. Anyhoo, the webcast was scheduled  from 9:00-9:30 pm and started directly after their on-air broadcast segment with besties QVC host Lisa Robertson, BE founder Leslie Blodgett, and BE’s Jessica Foust. QVC is celebrating their 25th Anniversary this year, and BE was chosen to celebrate along with them as part of their “25 to Watch” program.

We were asked to show up no later than 8:15 so that the group had time to check in, get through security, and take the ten or so minute walk through the building to get to the studio. The group was smaller than I had expected, about 24 or so fans and customers randomly selected from the BE customer database. The event was organized nicely. The team who greeted and managed the group was friendly, explaining to the group what was to be expected. We were all given the opportunity to fill out a question card for Lisa and Leslie, to be asked and answered live in the studio during the webcast if … keep on reading...

sally hansen vita-c lip plumper

Hey babes!

So I was walking down my favorite aisle at Walgreen’s the other day (can you guess which one? wink, wink), looking for a product that Sally Hansen sells, and what did I stumble across but this little orange tube that stopped me in my tracks.

Now that doesn’t happen too often, but when it does, I know that I am a goner. Shopping list be damned. I must have you little orange tube…

This particular product is part of a new lip line from Sally Hansen called Vita Lip Care and includes 3 other products, a Moisturizer, a Soother, a Smoother. Now, you might be asking, “Hey, glossgirl, I thought Sally Hansen is a nail polish company, what the what are they doing with lip products?” And that, my babes, is a good question. A couple of years ago, they expanded their brand (and bought out a few other product lines from other companies), and now offer all types products.

Anyhoo, the packaging was fairly simple (simple=green=good), labeled the product ‘New’ and claimed to ‘visibly plump thin lips’ because it ‘contains a nutrient complex with vitamin C know to stimulate collagen production, as micro sponges plump with moisture for fuller looking lips’, and states that it could be worn alone, or under another lip color (it goes on clear). Truth be told, that was what I was most excited about, the fact that this plumper – which is shaped like a regular lipstick and feels like a balm – could be used under other sticks and glosses.

Now, … keep on reading...

qvc beauty bash recap

Last Sunday I took a ride out to West Chester, PA to QVC Studio Park to attend this year’s Beauty Bash, an annual event that showcases the QVCbeauty brands, and gives attendees the opportunity to mix and mingle with some of the faces behind the brand, see new products, maybe get a facial or a manicure, and of course, collect tons of samples.

This is the second year I’ve attended and the fourth (or fifth) year that QVC has opened its door to connect their viewers with their brands. Considering they raised the ticket price by 50% in this year of continued effect of the recession – $75 up from last year’s $50 – I was curious to see if it would be worth it.

Last year, attendees were given a large cloth shopping bag to carry your loot (veteran attendees actually brought rolling suitcases to guard again arm and back pain), and a checklist so that you knew who was there, and to protect against swag double-dipping (when you were given a sample, it got crossed off the list). This year, we were told that samples would be handed out at the end. I was a tad skeptical, thinking that they were not only raising the price, but also cutting back on the swag.

Truth be told, the changes made to this year’s event were really positive. People didn’t have to stand in long lines to get their samples, there were more hair, makeup and skin care stations set up, and the brand representatives could more easily chat up … keep on reading...

burt’s bees super shiny natural lip gloss

Hey there, my glossy little babes… Thursday Review Day is here again! This week’s contender was hatched from, or should I say buzzes in from, a beloved little company called Burt’s Bees.

Yes, I’m sure know you all know them well, but for those you of you who don’t, they are a company that started out in Maine selling honey and beeswax candles out of a cabin and now offer over 150 natural personal care products. Over half of their product line is made with 100% natural ingredients, and they don’t test products or ingredients on animals. If you are one of those curious types, you can read more about them here and m

Burt’s started out with just a lip balm, but now offers a number of other lip products that are widely available. I’ve tried them all at one point or another (a balm, a shimmer stick, and the gloss), but chose to write about their Super Shiny Natural Lip Gloss after reading that their very first ingredient is castor oil, which I had mentioned in my post, Shine On You Crazy Glossbabe a couple of weeks ago as an ingredient to look for when looking for a super-shiny gloss. It’s also a new product! This gloss come in six colors, and at $7.49 at Wegmans and $6.99 at CVS, I decided that trying two colors – Berry Pink and Zesty Red – wouldn’t break the bank.

When I first put this gloss on, it felt very oily and thin, which I found strange because it took a … keep on reading...

plump it up!

Hi babes! Hope you are all having great and glossy weekends. I’ve been hard at work looking for new and interesting ideas for glossable, and every now and then I come across something that really piques my never-ending curiosity. “What,” you ask, “has me all fired up this time?”

Well, I would have to say that something really has me all plumped up, and that is the subject of lip plumpers. In my glossy travels, I came across something that suggested looking for lip products that contain ingredients like cinnamon, ginger or red pepper if you are looking for a plumping feature in a lip product because those ingredients increase circulation to your lips. That led me down the path of wondering if simply rubbing some ginger or tapping some chili powder to your lips before applying would work. Hmmmm. I may have to try that one of these days…

Anyhoo, that made me really start to wonder how plumpers really work and what what, if any, was the science behind them. I happen to love them (and science!). I love how that little sting feels on my lips. But I do have some friends that can’t use them because of that very sting. Some don’t like the feeling, and some find all that “plumping action” uncomfortable, sometimes even painful.

So, how do they really work? Well, there are a few “ways”.

The first way is by adding certain vitamins – particularly B12 and E – to their formulas, which can help nourish and restore the fragile skin around your … keep on reading...

stila lip glaze

Happy Review Day babes! And what a day it is!

This week I was torn between two glosses, as I thought I had a lock on what I wanted to write about. Until, that is, I actually got to Ulta and started poking around.

I was originally going to write about Smashbox’s Heartbreaker line – just in time for V-day – but I decided against it because when I was asking the Ultababe about it, she said the line was only going to be out through the end of February, and I didn’t think that would be the best use of our time together, ya know?

So, anyhoo… I puttered around for a while. Saw some great stuff, tried on some new stuff, and eventually found myself in from of the Stila display. Now I love Stila. I love, love, love their eyeshadows (hmmm, that gives me an idea – shadowable.com? Ooh, I’ll have to work on that one… ).

Anyhoo-squared, Stila makes an eyeshadow shade called Kitten that is amazing. It’s won all kinds of awards, including and Allure Editor’s Choice Award in 2008. I’ve been using it for a few years now and I love it.

So when I saw that they started making a Kitten Lip Glaze, I knew I had my answer. I scooped it up and headed to the register along with another product that I may want to write about at some point.

I tried it on as soon as I got home, but not before I was a little put off by the … keep on reading...

mac all ages, all races, all sexes lipstick

Hello my dear glossbabes. What a crazy week. Hope you’re hangin’ in there – the weekend’s almost here.

Well, I’m just gonna jump right in to this week’s review because I have a lot to say (shocker!)

Now what I have to say first may shock some (or most) of you. It may have you running for the tomatoes to throw at me, or may have you suggesting that I check myself into an asylum. Hopefully you’ll hang in there with me. Well, here goes:

I’ve never liked MAC. There, I said it.

I’ve. Never. Liked. MAC.

I’ve tried. And tried. And tried. Way back when in the (cough, cough) 90s….. Well, late 90s, I bought my very first “luxury” brand lipstick. MAC had already been in business for awhile, but the word about their lipsticks had just started getting out and becoming popular.

I remember this time distinctly. I remember the person (Hey, Jess!) who first unveiled their very own tube of Lipglass and proceeded to try to initiate me into the cult of MAC.

I had to try it. I needed to know more about it. I had to have it. Little did we know at the time that the only place (or at least how I remember the story going) was that the ONLY place to get MAC was in Toronto, Canada, or maybe Toronto was the only place they had a retail location. Well, anyway, whatever the real reason was, the stars were shining down on me as a work friend just happened to be going … keep on reading...
