Well glossbabes, here it it. The very first glossable.com review. I’m so pumped. Or should I say plumped…
I couldn’t help it. I had to start off with something that I already knew pretty well. I couldn’t help it because I was admittedly curious to see how my first choice would fare against the glossability index. And I happen to really like this product.
Buxom Babes Lip Polish is a great line of mineral lip polishes with a pretty extensive line of colors. I have a number of them – about 8 different colors – but the one I used for the past couple of days was Starr, one of their four colors that come in their 4 piece Diamond Buxom Babes Mineral Lip Polish kit ($28.00). These mini-sized glosses are sized perfectly for a purse, a clutch, or even a pocket, however, their full-size counterparts are about twice the size, cost $18.00, and are widely available in higher-end cosmetic stores like Ulta and Sephora. They are also available on QVC.com and on the Bare Escentuals website.
I find all the colors I own to be really flattering on my skin tone which is a bit on the pale, cool side, and I would think that because of the sheerness of the color, most colors would work well for most skin tones. Starr is a sheer red that can be lightly applied for day, or more heavily applied for a more dramatic evening look. The colors are on the sheer side, and the ever-present minerals add a light-diffusing sparkle to your lips that is a very nice touch, yet not over-sparkly. Amber is a great everyday, gotta-run-to-the-store-on-Saturday-morning gloss. The kind that you would stash in your car or your office drawer for quick touchups on the go.
Buxom’s texture, or “smack factor” is definitely strong and long-lasting without being sticky. I happen to like a heavier texture in gloss, but not in lipstick, so this was right up my alley. My first morning application lasted through my coffee and almost to lunch until I felt the need to reapply, which I find impressive because I drink a lot of coffee to get me going in the morning.
Buxom Babes boasts a plumping power, which I have to say that I didn’t notice the effects of too much. You do feel the tingliness of the plumping, but plumpers have never really worked on me other that to give me that tingly, or sometimes slightly stinging feeling. I happen to like it. Must help to wake me up!
According to the Bare Escentuals website, you can layer the lip polish over lipstick or lip liner for an extra pop of color, which although I didn’t try, sounds like a great idea They also mention their use of “a deep infusion of antioxidant vitamins A and E that keeps lips soft, smooth and protected”.
All in all, I have been very happy with this line, especially with the mini-tubes that can go everywhere. The packaging is attractive, and the brush itself is of pretty high quality. The bristles stay place, and don’t wind up falling out and getting stuck to your lips. Glossgirls hate that!
I do have to say though, that I could not find information that Buxom Babes included SPF, which I consider to be a very important feature in all lip products. I will keep looking and will be sure to update the post.
Bare Escentuals Buxom Babes Lips Polish, glossable.com’s very first review, rates four out of five smacks… great and glossible!
